God’s Little Miracles
Last weekend (the 12th and 13th) was a hectic weekend for me. I missed mass on Saturday night, and had to leave the house at 7Am to catch my flight to California to do the training for my new job. I arrived in San Francisco around noon on Sunday, and was pretty much convinced that I had just missed mass that weekend. God works in miraculous ways though as we will see.
Olivia and I got our luggage, and eventually figured out where our shuttle to the hotel was. It took us quite some time to do all this, maybe an hour and 10 -15 minutes. The hotel shuttle runs every hour, so we missed a shuttle by about 10 or 15 minutes. This turned out to be one of the little miracles god was working in my life that day.
So we finally got on the shuttle, both Olivia and I a little "exhausted" from all this, so I decided to read on the way to the hotel. I pulled out my book and went to the page where I was reading, which was marked with a divine mercy chaplet card. Again my having this card was a little miracle of god working in my life.
The shuttle is a pretty quick ride to the hotel, so before we knew it we were getting close. We noticed that there was a costco close by. This was great, since Olivia and I both love costco, and it would reduce our food expenses somewhat while we are here in California. I think this was another little miracle, after all what are the chances we would be within 5 blocks of our hotel, but it is not a part of the "big" miracle of that day.
When we finally get to the hotel we got in line to check in behind some people, and were waiting. I am a little sketchy about the exact details but essentially a wonderful gentleman asked me about my divine mercy card, and if I was Catholic. Of course I said I was and he invited me to go to mass that evening – really in just a couple hours. And suddenly the "big" miracle happened.
Michael, Olivia and I talked for some time, and he showed us around the area, and pointed out some great places to eat, and where things were. We really appreciated his doing this, as it took up at least an hour of his free time before going to mass.
I just was amazed. What is the chance that I would travel all the way to the other side of the US, take just the right amount of time to catch a shuttle – after all if we had been just 10 or 15 minutes earlier we would not have met Michael – then actually meet someone who was not only catholic, but was very familiar with the area, and was also going to mass that night. As Deacon Paul Lucia and his wife said when we met after mass – there are no coincidences, but there are "god incidences".
So many times in our life god works these little miracles, and we just never see them, we think they are coincidental, they are not, they are god intended miracles.
Thank you Michael for taking me to mass, Deacon Paul for taking the time to not only talk with us after mass, but giving us a ride back when it was raining, and most of all Father Jonathan G. Paala for saying mass.
